SMHS Orchestra
Prerequisites: Intermediate/Advanced playing experience is required. Enrolment by course instructor only.
The San Marino High School orchestra is an audition only group that performs grade V – VI music level and is open all students who desire to perform traditional and contemporary orchestral music. String and wind auditions are generally held starting the first week of November. It is expected that wind and percussion players have concurrent enrollment in concert band/wind ensemble. Rehearsals are held everyday at 7:00 a.m., starting the second quarter of school. This group performs at numerous concerts throughout the year including the annual holiday concert, spring concert and pops concert. Second semester activities include include performing at the SCSBOA district music festivals as well as well as a spring concert tour. Past accomplishments include superior performances at district and regional Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association music festivals (unanamous superior) and featured performing group at the California Music Educators State Convention. in San Jose and Pasadena. In 2007 the group was well recieved in a musical performance tour of Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. This group meets for three consecutive quarters per year.
